Makeyour PC boot faster

Why can't PCs be more like TVs? When you push the power button, shouldn't it just turn right on? You would think that, as technology advances, boot times would get quicker and quicker, but just the opposite seems to be happening. Here are some tips to get your computer to boot faster when you get a computer tune up.

#1 - Ditch Old Programs - An uncluttered computer is a faster computer. Go to your Control Panel and click Add/Remove Programs. If you see a program that you never use, uninstall it.

#2 - Reconfigure background programs - Some startup slowdowns are caused by programs that you want, but that run unnecessarily in the background even when you aren't using them. Using Windows Defender, you can choose which programs to allow to run at startup.

#3 - Kill the splash screen - If you are serious about cutting your boot time, you can eliminate this little item using the Boot tab of MSCONFIG.

#4 - Edit the BIOS - When you turn on your computer, the BIOS checks available drives to determine which ones have an operating system. The settings might not be looking in the right place first, causing slowdowns. Usually you can access the BIOS by pressing F2, F10 or F12 at startup.

#5 - Clean up the Registry - The registry is a database that operating systems use to store information about your hardware, software and user settings. Windows does a poor job of keeping the registry in check, especially when programs are deleted. So, you should clean it up periodically with a program such as CCleaner.

How much time will you gain by doing a computer tune up. It depends entirely on how messed up your computer is in the first place. Cleaning out all of the digital clutter still wont make your computer "instant on" like a TV, but it should speed it up significantly.

The Easiest Backup Solution Available
Everyone knows that they need to backup their files. Pictures, documents, spreadsheets, financial data, taxes - If you lost one or all of your personal items, how long would it take to get them back? Could you get them back?

Sure you can go buy a hard drive and backup to that. Or, you could backup your files to CDs or DVDs, daily, weekly, monthly. But what happens if those get damaged? Your data can still be lost.

The best way to backup your data is Remote Online Backup. Essentially, a program gets loaded on your computer that monitors the files that you select and saves them online whenever they change. All of this is done behind the scenes. You also get multiple revisions of each file, so, if your computer corrupts one, you can restore an old copy.

All of this peace of mind can be accomplished for a small monthly fee. Call us and we can discuss backup solutions for your home or business. 919-713-0090
