Is Your Computer Running Slow? There are some things you can do

Computer running slow? Many upgrades are a matter of a few minutes and a few keystrokes. For example:
1. Upgrade your software. Most of the software on a typical PC is out of date. First download the latest Service Pack and any subsequent updates. An easy way to do this is from the Microsoft Update Website. Then perform updates on commonly used programs like iTunes, QuickTime, Flash, Java and your antivirus program. You will be glad you did.

2. Optimize your hard drive. If you are running out of space, you may want to consider buying another hard drive. But to clean out the clutter, go to Windows Explorer, right click your drive, choose Properties and then click Disk Cleanup. This will scan your drive and show you what could be gained by compressing older files and deleting unused files. Once this is complete, run a full disk defragmentation to complete the job.

3. Install Mozilla Firefox. You may have noticed how slow Internet Explorer has gotten with each revision. Mozilla Firefox is a fast/free Internet browser (www.Mozilla.com). You can customize the browser in a number of ways which I will discuss in a future newsletter.
